Percy Press (1902-1980), Adrienne's grandfather, the uncrowned king of Punch and Judy, performed for many years at Hastings on the pier and in the Whiterock Pavilion and at Madam Tussauds in London. He was chairman of prestigious British Puppet and Model Theatre Guild for many years. Both his sons, Percy and Leslie, became Punch and Judy professors. The late Percy II, Adrienne's father, worked for many years in Covent Garden, travelled all over the world as an ambassador for Punch, and was instrumental in the formation of The Punch and Judy Fellowship. Adrienne's Uncle Leslie was still performing well in his 80s.
Adrienne Press is one of only a handful of lady performers of Punch & Judy. Traditionally Punch Professors have been men, but it is not strange that Adrienne should be involved since she is steeped in the tradition and comes from one of the most influential Punch and Judy families of the 20th Century.
So it is easily understood why Adrienne is so enthusiastically following the family tradition and she performs Punch and Judy at parties and events, indoors and outside. But as a qualified teacher she also takes her puppets and artistic abilities into the classroom. She offers a range of puppet and non-puppet related workshops.
